What is wood engraving?

What is wood engraving? Well, I'm so glad you asked.

Wood engraving is a traditional printmaking technique with which you can create very detailed images that are generally fairly small in scale. Not to be confused with woodblock prints, wood engraving uses the cross-section of the wood.

If you'd like to find out more, come to the weekend wood engraving workshop I am teaching at the Edition 9 Printmaking Studio on 26 and 27 July 2014.

The focus in this course is on encouraging creativity in a friendly environment, using non-toxic materials.

All materials and tools for the workshop will be supplied. A vegetarian lunch, as well as morning and afternoon tea are also included in the weekend workshop fee. So if you live on the Sunshine Coast, or if you'd like to come up here for a weekend, I'd love you to enrol.   :-)

Beckoning of Lovely film

What a lovely project this is. My collage drawing was selected as a finalist and I have a tiny small credit near the end of the film (42:23) but more than anything, it is just wonderful to be part of this. Hope you enjoy the film!

The 2013 Calendar is ready!

Can you believe that this is the 18th year of my calendars? I usually try to have it ready by the second week of November but somehow, I managed to get distracted by a million other things this year and ended up way behind schedule with the calendar.

But finally, here it is!

Most of the illustrations this year sort of reflect my new surrounds, up in Noosa, Australia. I really hope you like it.

If you would like to buy one, go to www.duck-books.com/shop.html to order and I will send it to you as quickly as possible, so you will hopefully get it in time for Christmas :-)

Garden Life

What I learned in my garden over the weekend: Goanas are very fast. Frill necked lizards scurry quite noisily through the undergrowth but are well camouflaged and invisible when they stand still. Snakes slither silently... too silently.

Calendar is ready

The 2012 calendar is ready! All the artwork is from my linocuts: some are new ones which I made especially for the calendar, and others are from my recent series entitled 'The Lost Snail' which was exhibited at Sheffer Gallery in July/August.

The calendar is in a CD-style acrylic case and opens up to sit on your desk. It is a great present as it is unique, useful and arty, as well as being easy to post. You can buy it online at Duck Books :-)

Summer is coming

...... time flies.

The weather is getting warm again and the sky is beautiful clear blue today.

I got very sick at the end of July and spent most of August in hospital, but now I am recovering well. New art ideas are developing in my imagination. Time to tidy up my studio desk and get to work on the 2012 calendar!
