Celebration

Today is the Australia Day holiday, and until about an hour ago, it was a hot sunny day. Not noticing the change of weather approaching, I took the dog for a walk. We had only been out for about 5 minutes when it began to drizzle. Not too heavily, though.

A little further on, Dog and I encountered a group of about 30 laughing, inebriated young people, leaving the lovely riverside park. Seemed that the rain had brought an end to their celebration. Quite a few wore shorts or t-shirts sporting the Aussie flag; one or two were even draped in the flag.

Dog and I walked on, and got to the park. The scene the group had left behind from their barbeque party in the park left me puzzling about what tricky thing it is, loving one's country ...

Very good post! Why do they act 'patriotic' while so disrespecting the land!

Thanks Meggie. Its the first time I have ever been moved to draw a pile of rubbish! That is really exactly how they left it.

Oh I love your drawings.

I really hate it when people can't be bothered to leave a place how they found it or better. I doubt that is their vision of how Australia should be.

Drizzle though! I was hoping for sunshine when I arrived. I get plenty of drizzle here!

Thank you, Reluctant Blogger. Don't worry, the drizzle was just to give us a short break....we are in the grip of a heat wave at the moment. Adelaide and Melbourne over 40 deg C! Sydney over 30 deg C.

I love the drawings! And the colours.
People chuck their rubbish all over the place. The kids going to school past my place drop the refuse from their morning snacks outside (don't they get breakfast at home?), the pub-goers litter too, the bus stop is littered with countless cigarette butts. Etcetera, ad nauseam. It is enough to drive you nutty.

Thank you for visiting and for your comment, Persiflage. Your blog is wonderful, too. Seems like you are having a pretty tough time at the moment. My kindest wishes to you.

Thanks for the comment, I tried to delete my header oic as you have suggested, but it just doesnt want to go away!, thanks anyway, oh and great blog, I too get very frustrated with thoughtless morons littering everywhere- we have a clean green image in NZ, but its hard keeping to that.

We live two blocks from the river bluff, where thousands gather every fourth of July for our independence day fireworks. The next day it looks as if someone just turned over a giant garbage truck in our neighborhood: plastic bottles, papers, food, even diapers. It's a disgusting mess, year after year. Maybe it's a planetary problem . . . .

Hi Margaret and Minnesota Matron, and thanks for visiting.

Sad to hear that carelessly making a disgusting mess of the environment is also an issue in NZ and Minnesota. Seems like it really must be a planetary problem.

The 4th of July mess in Minnesota has same irony as the Australia Day mess here: funny way to display a love of the country...
